Mushrooms are a large group of fungi that find several uses, including culinary or medicinal. However, when concerned about the legality of “mushrooms”, the reference is generally towards “magic mushrooms”. Measures to change the legal status of magic mushrooms have been attempted in the Oklahoma legislature, but were not attempted. In 2022, HB 3414 by Rep. Daniel Pea attempted to decriminalize possession of psilocybin and considered allowing clinical trials and research into the substance and its uses.
While the measure initially got some traction, eventually it failed to clear the legislature. Another bill, HB 3174 also attempted to look at clinical uses of psilocybin, but did not pass the legislature.
While there is some hope that the legal status of magic mushrooms will change in the future, it continues to be illegal at this moment.
